Top Rated - Restaurants in Penang

Finding the best places to eat in Penang isn’t just about what locals say or food bloggers suggest. The top rated restaurants here earn their spots because travellers from all over keep coming back and leaving solid, positive reviews. These spots have genuine, consistent high scores based on thousands of real visitors, not just a handful of isolated five stars.

Most of these places can be found in popular neighbourhoods like George Town and Batu Ferringhi, where dining options run the gamut from street food stalls to classy bistros. A good tip is to avoid peak tourist seasons like December and Chinese New Year if you prefer a calmer meal, as places can get crowded and wait times increase significantly. Whether you’re here for char kway teow or some fresh seafood, these restaurants stand out because of true traveller approval, making them reliable picks when you want a great meal without the guesswork.

Local tip for dining out

If you’re aiming to try a top rated char kway teow, head to a place in George Town early in the evening before dinner rush kicks in, around 5 PM. This way you can avoid the long queues and still enjoy freshly cooked plates. Also, bring cash along as many hawker stalls and smaller restaurants don’t accept cards. It’s a simple trick but can save you from awkward moments when ordering from some of Penang’s best-reviewed food joints.
